At a difficult time like this, it was so nice to have someone help me through all the details. That truly makes for a one of a kind personal experience.
April 8, 1946 — November 12, 2018
Linda June Owen Ruby, 72, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2018 at her home in Houston, Texas surrounded by her family after enduring a long illness. Linda was born April 8, 1946 to Alzo Owen and Nina Wilkerson. Anchored by her faith in Christ, Linda embraced life with child-like enthusiasm and both a helper's heart and helper's hands. Smiling, giving, comforting, Linda served the Lord with tender-loving grace. "Be ye kind one to another" defined her ever-giving approach to life. Linda loved cooking everyone's favorite meals, rooting for the Houston Astros, the Kentucky Wildcats, collecting Little Golden Books, and all things gingerbread; but most of all, she loved her family. Preceded in death by her father and Don Wilkerson, Linda is survived by her mother, Nina Wilkerson; her loving husband of 52 years, Ken; their children, Jonathan (Ranae) and Eric (Michele) Ruby of Somerset, KY and Ami Ruby of Houston, TX; a sister, Donna English (Kris); a brother David Wilkerson (Maria) of Mt. Washington, KY; a brother in law, Tom Ruby (Gina) of Alexandria, VA; sisters in law, Jan Cox of Taylorsville, KY and Jean McCormick (Charlie) of Mt. Washington, KY; grandchildren, Jared, Mason, Taylor (Erin), Raegan, and Chaney Ruby, Bryan Carroll (Kayla), and Jessica and Jon (Faith) Nelson; great-grandchildren, Brayden Malachi Carroll, Juno Daniella Nelson, and due February 2019, Kenneth Wesley Ruby; nieces and nephews, Craig English, Brandy Bledsoe (Doug), Catie Lamkin (Kevin), Justin McCormick, Valerie Drury (Bill), Waite McCormick (Nicole), Meagan Ference, Tracy Jo Cox, John Ruby (Ashley), and Greg Ruby (Tina), along with a host of beloved grand-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit from noon until time of service. Another celebration of Linda's life will be held in Houston at a later date. Memorial gifts in Linda's honor may be given to: Texas Baptist Children's Home, 1101 N Mays St., Round Rock, Texas 78664; Houston's First Baptist Church General Fund, 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024; or Houston's Second Baptist Church General Fund, 6400 Woodway Drive, Houston, Texas 77057.
