Bonnie Louise Travis, 80, of Mt. Washington, returned to the Lord on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.
Bonnie founded Travis Child Care in Mt. Washington and cared for many children throughout her life. She started her business in 1967, a time when there were few women in the workforce, and was the first daycare owner to start a “preschool program” with a certified teacher on her staff. She also found time to be active in her community, serving in the Mt. Washington Lioness Club and was on the committee that started our annual Mt. Washington Spring Festival. She also served on the Bullitt County Fair Board. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Washington, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, and also was a member of the Southern Baptist Women Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Leslie Bruce Travis; her parents, Woodrow and Lucille Parrish; her in-law’s , Vernon and Elizabeth Travis.
Bonnie is survived by her two daughters, Margie McMahan (Mac) and Donna McMahon (Kevin); three grandsons, Jacob (Jen), Caleb (Jamie), and Izaak McMahan; three great grandchildren, Ben, Chris, and Grace McMahan; three siblings, Hubert Parrish (Karen), Judy Hayden (Johnnie), and Danny Parrish (Karen);along with a host of beloved extended family including, Kay and Kassie Parrish, Eric Hayden, Kathy Dryden, Jim and Karen Travis, Sean Travis (Tammy), Ella, Abby, Edelen and Harper Travis .
