Donald T. Lacer 1931-2020, age 88, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at his home.
He was born in Evansville, Indiana, and moved with his family to Louisville, Kentucky at age 9. He attended Louisville Male High School before leaving to join the U. S. Coast Guard where he served aboard the U.S.C.G.C. Winnebago WPG 40.
He was a former employee of Naval Ordinance Station Louisville where he worked as a welding and fabrication supervisor in the missile division. He left there in 1992 and became the owner/operator of Pike's Ridge General Store on Green River Lake until 2006. He then worked as a campground attended for the U. S. Army Corp of Engineers at Pike's Ridge Campground and Smith Ridge Campground until 2017.
He was a member of American Legion post #82, Campbellsville, Ky. A former member of Masonic Shawnee Lodge #830, Kosair Shrine, and the American Welding Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth "Pete" Lacer and Helen L. (Tilford) Lacer and his wife of 44 years Yvonne D. (Daniel) Lacer. He is survived by his children David K. Lacer of Campbellsville, Ky, Kevin M. Lacer (Jeresa), of Campbellsville, KY, Dana M. DeWitt (Brian) of Knifley, Ky, and Kelly M. Lacer of Louisville, KY, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a sister, Judy Fowler of Louisville, Ky, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In his younger years he enjoyed building and racing go-karts with his dad and won many trophies. He also enjoyed working on houses and rebuilt or remolded every house he and Yvonne lived in. Another enjoyment was cooking and he was known for his smoked pork sandwiches.
Our dad worked hard his entire life and made sure we always had what we needed. He was always there with advise or guidance. And though we will miss him greatly we find peace and comfort knowing that he is at rest.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donation to Kosair Charities.
A celebration of life services will be held at a future date.
