Florence Elizabeth (Rothman) Ryan

RYAN, FLORENCE ELIZABETH (ROTHMAN), 95, of Mt. Washington, KY, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024.   

Florence was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts on January 20, 1929 to the late Joseph A. and Maud (Schafer) Rothman. She was a member of First Baptist Church Mt. Washington and retired from Mt. Washington Central Garage, where she served as bookkeeper.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dolan Ryan, and brothers, Joseph H. and Daniel (Lexi) Rothman.   

She is survived by daughters Judy (Keith) Brown of Glasgow, KY, Lori Geary of LaGrange, KY, and Alice (Greg) Harris of Mt. Washington; granddaughters Stephanie Bormann, Victoria Harris, Abigail Harris, Lilly Brown, Hannah Fournier, and Jade Harris; 10 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Virginia Curtis; sisters-in-law Garneta Ryan and Juanita Rothman; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and very dear friends.  Florence spent her retirement years providing care for her Mother, driving friends to appointments, visiting residents at nursing homes, and her favorite past-time, reading.  Her 90th birthday was celebrated by installing a Little Free Library in her community. She bequeathed her body to the University of Louisville School of Medicine for medical teaching and research purposes.   

The family will welcome visits from friends and relatives at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home, Mt. Washington, on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 1 p.m. with a brief Celebration of Life service to follow at 2:30 p.m. Those wishing to honor the memory of Florence are asked to contribute books to your local Little Free Library, volunteer at a nursing home, or volunteer at/make memorial gifts to Sunrise Children’s Services in Mt. Washington, Shine Disabilities Ministry of Southeast Christian Church, or your local Girl Scouts troop.
