Francis Joseph Sullivan, 85, of Mt. Washington, returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, July 28, 2023 at his home. Born to Francis J. and Norma Sullivan on July 27, 1938 in Louisville, KY. He moved to Mt. Washington in 1958 with his wife, Elizabeth, and daughter, Robin Ann, to pursue his passion of opening a bakery. In February 1959, he opened "Sullivan's Bakery", and operated the business with his wife for 38 years in the same downtown location on Bardstown Road. Active in the community, he was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where he became a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. He was an avid breeder of American Kennel Club Championship Beagles, and was a member of the Shelbyville Beagle Club. He served his community as the president of the Mt. Washington Lions Club, member of the city council, and was mayor of Mt. Washington from 2002 to 2006. His survivors include his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth; son, Frank Sullivan Jr. (Kimberly); daughters, Robin Fell (Charlie), Veronica Sullivan-Frederick (Jeffrey), and Kelly Lewis (Trev); along with eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Michael Sullivan Visitation will be Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 1 to 4 p.m. at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home. His funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2023 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Mt. Washington, with a celebration of life meal to follow in the church hall. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
