Gerald D. Burkhead, Sr.

Gerald D. Burkhead, Sr., 80, of Louisville, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Signature Healthcare of Elizabethtown.  Gerald was born in Louisville, KY on July 3, 1943 to the late Carl and Anita Dowell Burkhead.  He was a retired employee of General Electric, a Navy veteran, and a Kentucky Colonel.  He served his community as a member of the North Bullitt Lions Club, Miles Masonic Lodge, and the Kosair Shrine Temple.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, William Burkhead and Barbara Schmitt.  Gerald is survived by his loving wife of over 34 years, Theresa Davis Burkhead;  three children, Gerald "Doug" Burkhead Jr, Kevin Lee Burkhead, and Julie Burns (Keith); two brothers, Carl Burkhead Jr. and Donnie Burkhead (Kim); along with his granddaughter, Felicity Kim Close (Richard).  Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023 at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in Beth Haven Cemetery.  Friends may visit after 10 a.m. Saturday until time of service.  Memorial gifts in his memory are suggested to Kosair Charities.
