Gerald Gene Smothers

Gerald Gene Smothers, 87, of Mt. Washington, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at his home.  Mr. Smothers was born on July 5 1933 in Marion County to the late Jesse and Beatrice Smothers.  Gerald was a retired employee of General Electric, an Army veteran, and a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Washington.  He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  Among those whom preceded him in death are his wife of 64 years, Meairl Glenna Smothers; and siblings, James J., Lillian, Rose Evelyn, Willie Joe, Mary, Martha, and Paul Smothers, and Margie White.  Gerald is survived by his daughter, Sharon Puckett (Terry); two granddaughters, Ashleigh and Casey; and great granddaughters, Maddie and Raelyn.  Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in Highland Memory Gardens.  Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday.  Memorial gifts are suggested to First Baptist Church Building Fund.
