Herbert Hilton Slaughter, 89, of Mt. Washington, returned to the Lord on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at his home. He was born on March 18, 1936 in Todd County, KY to the late Taylor Edward and Nellie Jessup Slaughter. He spent his life serving the Lord. Herbert started preaching at the age of 16, and had served as pastor in Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana, and Ohio for over 70 years. He also served as a missionary with the North American Mission Board. He was currently a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Washington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, David, Edward, and Ray Slaughter. Herbert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Peggy Pulley Slaughter; two daughters, Lynn Slaughter and Karen Weaver (Jim); one son, Neil Slaughter (Koleene); one brother, Alton Slaughter; a sister, Wanda Nash (James); along with 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Rev. Slaughter will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2025 at First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
