James Russell Hamlett Sr., 83, of Mt. Washington, returned to the Lord on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at his home. He was a native of Adair County, Kentucky, a retired maintenance employee with the Bullitt County Public School System, and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He also worked many years for the Cyclone Hardware in Mt. Washington. Russell was very active in his community, serving in the Mt. Washington Lions Club, Mt. Washington Fire Department, Dare to Care, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was preceded in death by siblings, Corrine Kemp, Pauline Rogers, Demple McFarland, William Hamlett, Hallie Trenton, Robert Lee and Lawrence Hamlett. Russell is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Hamlett; three children, James Russell Hamlett Jr. (Grace), Thomas Leland Hamlett, and Teresa Ann O'Bryan; two sisters, Mary Louise Sneed, and Norma Jean Parnell; along with 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren including Chelsae Rockwell and her husband, Corey, whom cared for him; and one great-great grandson, Liam James Rockwell. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2022 at Bethel United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
