John Anthony Schmidt

John Anthony Schmidt, 68, of Shepherdsville, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024.  John was born on July 18, 1956 in Louisville, KY to the late Ralph and Edna Schmidt.  After graduating from St. Xavier High School, he went on to Vanderbilt University graduating in the class of 1978, and later finished his education from the University of Kentucky Law School in 1981.  He was a longtime member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Shepherdsville, KY.  He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan, as well as a Dodgers fan.  In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and reading mysteries.  John is survived by his wife, Kathleen Schmidt; two daughters, Stephanie Rose Kelley (Patrick) and Erica Schmidt; one brother, Ralph Schmidt (Susi); two grandchildren, Cole and Theo Kelley; along with his beloved golden retriever, Penny.  A memorial mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Shepherdsville.  A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, November 7th from 4 to 8 p.m. at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home.  Memorial gifts in John's memory are suggested to his church or the Kentucky Humane Society.
