Joseph Eloi Montfort Cyr, 72, of Mt. Washington, returned to his heavenly home on December 31, 2021, surrounded by his family. Joe was born September 3, 1949 in St. Agatha, Maine to Octave E. and Eva Sirois Cyr. He was a United States Army Veteran who served in Vietnam in the 173rd Airborne Division, earning both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was a retired boiler and elevator inspector for the United States Postal Service and a Kentucky Colonel. Joe was a faithful member of Living Hope Baptist Church, where he taught the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class. After retirement, he joined a Friday morning men's Bible study, which he attended faithfully until his illness progressed. He will be remembered for his love for his family, his infectious laugh, and his ear-piercing whistle. Joe's relationship with Christ was an essential part of his life and he has left a legacy of faith for his family to follow. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Jean Guy, Bernard J., and Luc Patrick Cyr; along with sisters, Rose Marie Beaulieu and Marie Louise Cyr. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Carol Hargrove Cyr; his children, Deric (Ashley), Wendy, Justin (Kelly England), and Travis (Vanessa) Cyr; three brothers, John Paul, Bertrand J., and George E. Cyr; two sisters, Cecile Lausier and Georgette Pelletier; six grandchildren, Austin, Ava, Scarlette, and Xavier Cyr, and Ella and Harlyn England; brothers and sisters in law, Texia Thomas, Colin Hargrove, Linda Beverly (Ray) and Karen Gipson (Bob); special friends, Debby and Randy Owens and Neal and Bobbi Corbin; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday at the Living Hope Baptist Church. Friends may visit 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial with military honors will be held at a later date at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Gideons International or the Living Hope Baptist Church Missions Fund. The family would like to thank Hosparus Health for the gentle and kind care given to Joe during his final days.
