Kathleen Elizabeth (Maines) Smith

Kathleen (Kathy) Elizabeth Maines Smith,65, of Mt Washington, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021 at her home. Kathy loved garage sales, Goodwill, and the hunt for a great bargain. She passed those loves on to her daughter. She worked at Louisville General Surgery for over 20 years with amazing providers and coworkers who became friends.  It would be wrong to say Kathy lost her battle to cancer because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Kathy remained strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Kathy. Kathy was preceded in death by her loving parents Alfred and Jenelle Maines. Kathy is survived by her loving spouse of 44 years, Paul “Tommy” Smith; her daughter, Erin White (Aaron Wells); her grandsons, Keegan and Spencer White and step-grandson Liam Wells. She also leaves behind sisters, Ann Etherton, Caroline Keeling (Mark), Patricia Guess (Tony); brothers, Kenneth Maines and Joseph Maines (Binian). She was also loved by her, mother-in-law Gilda Smith, who was like a second mother to her and her sister-in-law, Nina Smith; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends. Kathy was the best mother to Erin and her niece Sharon. She was an amazing Gigi to Keegan, Spencer, Liam and her great-nieces Aubrey, Penelope and great-nephew Romeo who will miss her dearly. For over 50 years, Kathy had the greatest friends/earth sisters Norma, Connie, Joyce, Doris, and Carolyn. Our family would like to say a huge thank you to her best friend/earth sister/caregiver, Norma Redmon May. We love you.  A Celebration of Life will be held 1 pm Saturday, November 6th at My Old Kentucky Home (Carriage House) Bardstown, Ky.  Donations may be made to Hosparus of Louisville in her memory. They are such a blessing.
