Larry Hedges, of Louisville, age 75, passed away on July 26, 2021 in his home, surrounded by “his girls.” He was born December 9th, 1945 to Cleon and Mary Hughes Hedges in Todd’s Point, KY. He was raised with 11 siblings. In November of 1968, he married the love of his life, Susan Smith of Kankakee, Illinois. A distinguished Marine, he served for multiple tours in Vietnam, Okinawa, Tania, and Malaysia, serving honorably for 21 years until his retirement in 1984. Larry also served as a deputy sheriff for Jefferson County, retiring in 2005. Larry was a member of the fraternal order of police, the VFW of Middletown, and Elder of 11 years at Family day ministry of Shepherdsville. He is preceded in death by his daughter Bethany Joyce Clemerson. Father, mother, and brothers Billy, David, Marvin, Edward, Freddie, sisters Ruby, Laverne, Janice. Larry loved all his girls, daughter Shauna Hedges (Russell), granddaughters Alexandra (Josh) Goldener, and Gabriella Golden. Survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. on Wednesday at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
