Larry Matherly, 78, of Louisville, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Baptist Health. He was a native of Taylorsville, KY, an Army veteran, and a retired employee of General Electric. Larry was an avid UK fan and enjoyed watching old westerns over and over again. He loved to hunt and fish, especially down by the railroad tracks, and was a big storyteller, often telling the same story many times over. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elizabeth Matherly; and a sister, Edith Carrier. Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Matherly; three children, Jeff Matherly, Sherry Matherly, and Kathy Banta (Jerry); grandchildren, Calin Matherly, Katrina Matherly, and Jordan Matherly; two sisters, Judy Keeling and Bonnie Heady; his best friend, Richard Rayburn; a pseudo grandson, Shawn Dickerson; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2025 at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in Kings Church Cemetery. Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday. Memorial gifts are suggested to Hosparus of Louisville.
