Louis Ploetner Obituary

Louis O. "Bud" Ploetner, Jr., 76, of Shepherdsville, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at his home.  He was born June 10, 1947 to Louis "Oscar" and Lucille Elzy Ploetner.  He was a 1965 graduate of Mt. Washington High School, a Baptist by faith, and a retired truck driver for Winn Dixie Warehouse with over 34 years of service.  Bud enjoyed farming his entire life, from growing up on his parents' dairy farm to establishing his own small farm where he raised an assortment of farm animals over the years before concentrating on beef cattle.  He loved raising a big garden and sharing his fresh produce with family, friends, and neighbors.  He was quick to offer a helping hand, words of encouragement, and oftentimes, unsolicited advice.  He had a quick wit, dry sense of humor, an opinion on everything, and he could not resist making wisecracks on any subject, at every opportunity.  Along with his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his brother, Ernie Joe Ploetner; along with his sisters, Stella "Deanie" Mercer and Suzzetta Ploetner.  Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of over 56 years, Donna Clark Ploetner; two sons, Charlie and Darren Ploetner; a daughter, Jodi Ploetner; six grand-daughters, Ashley, Haley (Alex), Angel, Madelyn, Samantha, and Emily; five great-grandchildren, Dashtin, Arleigh, Caspian, Malikai, and Vakari; a cousin, Randy Elzy, who was more like a brother; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Mercer and Ricky Clark (Beulah); his mother-in-law, Birdie Clark; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and extended family.  Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Mt. Washington Cemetery.  Friends may visit 3-8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday.
