Martha Elizabeth (Benzel) Thompson

Martha Elizabeth Thompson, 74, of Mt. Washington, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026 at her home.  She was born on February 20. 1951 in Louisville, KY to the late Kenneth and Christine Benzel.  She was a former employee with the Bullitt County Board of Education, and had attended Southeast Christian Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Receveur.  Martha is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Thompson; one son, Jimmy Thompson (Jennifer); three sisters, Marian Kirkpatrick, Linda Newton, and Kathleen Stensil; along with four grandchildren, Corey Receveur (Jessica), Christian Receveur (Victoria), Trey Thompson, and Dayton Thompson; two great grandsons, Cedric and Colton.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2026 at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery.  Friends may visit from 12 p.m. until time of services.
