Mary Joan (Vires) Carter

Mary Joan Carter, 72, of Hodgenville, returned to the Lord on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Norton Hospital.  She was the former Mary Joan Vires, a native of Taylorsville, KY, and attended First Baptist Church of Hodgenville.  Joan was a good hearted person, loved being with people, and spent many hours of her day reading the Bible and praying for others.  She was an avid UK fan, she loved Elvis, and enjoyed collecting Coca Cola products.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Carter; a granddaughter, Liliana McCoy; her parents, Burnom and Gertrude Vires; and her siblings, Shelby "Junior" Bivens, Maybelle Moore, Betty Truax, Marilyn Jane Goodlett, Donnie Vires, and Geraldine Williams.  She is survived by three children, Angie Clough (Martie), Troy Heady, and Jessica McCoy; one brother, Joe Vires; four grandchildren, Ashley, Adriana, Dylan, and Jocelyn; two great grandchildren, Aiden and Jevon.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m.. Tuesday at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in Valley Cemetery.  Friends may visit after 12 p.m. Tuesday until time of service.
