Roy Don Hoover, Jr., 81, of Mt. Washington, returned to the Lord on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at his home.
Don was a retired engineer for the Federal Government, a proud Army veteran, and a graduate of the University of Kentucky. In his spare time, he enjoyed western movies, especially John Wayne movies, and playing the guitar. He was an old car enthusiast and an avid UK sports fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Don Sr. and Amy Hoover.
Don is survived by his wife of 25 years, Debbie Hoover; daughter, Misty O’Brien and bonus daughter, Amy Stidham (Brian); a sister, Brenda Mathis (Bobby); seven grandchildren, Whitley O’Brien (Eric), Timothy O’Brien (Samantha), Abigail O’Brien, Hannah O’Brien, Ryan Hoover, Max Hoover, and Lilly Hoover; along with two great grandchildren, Samuel Flatt and Kay’Ron Maybank.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Mt. Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
