Sharlet Riggs Obituary

Sharlet Louise Riggs, of Mt. Washington, left this life on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Baptist Health.  She was born on August 13, 1946 in LaGrange, KY to the late Robert Thomas Giunta and Mary Elizabeth Adams.  She was raised in Campbellsburg, Kentucky by her grandparents, Joseph and Ida Adams until the age of 7.  She then moved to Louisville to live with her mother and stepfather, Mary and A.J. Davie.

She attended Ahrens High School majoring in Art.  Sharlet met Gerald “Jerry” Riggs at a Valentine’s Day party in 1963.  They were married on June 18, 1966.  Sharlet worked at Louisville Stoneware, now Louisville Pottery as an artist before becoming a stay at home mom to Joseph in 1967 and Judith in 1969.

Sharlet was an artist by heart.  She painted with both oils and acrylics, painted in reverse on glass and painted greenware.  She was skilled at floral arranging, decoupage, quilting, and embroidery.  She has given pillowcases to many over the years.  She completed five large quilts for family and countless baby quilts.  She also enjoyed playing cards, Rook, Euchre, Canasta, Tick, Hand and Foot, and Rummy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, A.J. Davie;  and her son, Joseph Riggs.

Sharlet will be dearly missed by her husband of nearly 60 years, Jerry Riggs; one daughter, Judith Riggs (Rebel Weems Sr.);  and two grandchildren, Karma and Rebel Jr.; along with her sister-in-law, Shirley Huff.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with entombment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Louisville, KY.  Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.
