William Herbert Wallender

William Herbert Wallender, cherished and beloved father, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024 at his home in Louisville at the age of 101. William was born in Oakland, California on June 13, 1922. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  In 1949, William relocated to Louisville KY. He was a professional painter and operated his own company for many years. William was a devout Christian and dedicated member of Christian Assembly Church for over 70 years.  He actively participated with the ministry, and was dedicated to studying the truths of the Bible. He loved singing for the Lord, and was still singing specials at his church until a few months prior to his death. William authored a book about the Holy Spirit and his work with the founder of Gospel Kingdom Campground where he acted as a personal caregiver, chauffeur and boat pilot. William's devotion to serving the Lord was an inspiration to many and a Christian example to all he met. William was preceded in death by his precious wife of 67 years, Margaret Wallender; his mother, Eva Runge; his brothers, Alfred and Laddie Wallender; one nephew, Raymond Wallender and his granddaughter, Tonie Renee Wallender. He is survived by five children; Larry (Phyllis), Kathlyn, Leana , Paul (Barbara) and Annette. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren; Dennise, Tracy (Greg), Michelle (Matthew), Cameron (Renee), Crista, Lindsey (Mimi), Danielle (Wes), Hannah (Russell), Paul Michael, Brandon (Mary) and Cory (Pamela); 21 great-grandchildren; Ashley (Matt), Brent, Michael (Shannon), Matthew, Samantha (Ryan), Jacob (Jessica), Ashley, Amber, Kaylee, Dylan, Joseph, Ethan, Dylan, Claire, Wesley, Keelin, Oliver, Olivia, Harper, Riley and Logan;  six great-great grandchildren; Graham, Michael Jr., Dalton, Lincoln, Jason and Gwendolyn; along with a host of his church family . Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 27th, at Christian Assembly Church, 9020 Stonestreet Road, Louisville, with burial in Beth Haven Cemetery. Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.  Memorial gifts in his memory are suggested to his church.  Arrangements were entrusted to McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home, Mt. Washington.
